Coalition Members
MVFC coalition members are the ten states of the Mississippi Valley region. The coalition formed as an outgrowth of the Upper Mississippi River Freight Corridor Study in 2002 and updated in 2005-2006. The purpose is to collaborate on freight transportation issues of regional interest and to take planning leadership roles in projects that enhance freight transportation in their respective states. Here are the planning activities that have taken place in each of the MVFC member states:
Illinois
The Illinois DOT completed an update of its state transportation plan at the end of 2007. For more information on the history and goals of the plan, click here. An important regional effort is the CREATE partnership between Illinois DOT, the City of Chicago, Metra, Amtrak, and the nation’s freight railroads to make freight and passenger rail travel safer and more efficient while stimulating local economies and protecting the environment.
Indiana
The INDOT Transportation Plan has been updated to fit the Major Moves construction agenda that runs from 2006-2015.
Iowa
Iowa DOT officials have been taking public comment on the 2008-2011 State Transportation Improvement Plan. A long-range, 25-year state plan is called “Iowa in Motion –Planning Ahead.” Click here for details.
Kansas
KSDOT has a new Long Range Transportation Plan. Kansas City Community News has summary.
Kentucky
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has a Six-Year Transportation plan that carries through 2012. For details, click here. A 2008 Stewardship Plan has also been released.
Michigan
“Michigan Moving Forward” is MDOT’s 2005-2030 Long Range Transportation Plan. MDOT has also developed strategic plans for the next three years and through 2020 that affect freight and transit. For more information on those, click here.
Minnesota
The state of Minnesota’s transportation plan runs through 2028 and is available here.
Missouri
The Show Me state’s major endeavor is the Interstate 70 improvement project and a related study of truck-only lanes that is significant to the world of freight. Ohio
The Ohio DOT recently released its 2008-2009 business plan, a document calling for implementation of many of the goals and objectives shared by MVFC. These include a seamless, multimodal freight transportation network with improved capacity and infrastructure through collaborative planning and an increased federal financial commitment. Wisconsin
Multimodal transportation is the focus of the Badger State’s Connections 2030 plan that covers a 25-year span. CFIRE and MVFC researchers have worked with WISDOT on the Marquette Interchange which has reached the final design stage.
